Rather than growing out of the active-duty PSYOP community at Fort Bragg, its lineage has remained rooted in the Army Reserve and the Chicago area for more than 70 years.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe battalion's lineage began on December 30, 1954, when Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 305th Radio Broadcasting and Leaflet Battalion was constituted in the Army Reserve. The unit activated in Chicago on January 17, 1955, moved to Evanston in 1957 and became the 305th Psychological Warfare Battalion in 1960. In 1965 it was redesignated the 305th Psychological Operations Battalion, and after years in the Chicago and Arlington Heights area, the organization received its present designation as the 16th Psychological Operations Battalion on June 16, 1996.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThat lineage carried directly into the GWOT era. Soldiers and subordinate elements of 16th POB deployed overseas in support of contemporary PSYOP missions, including service in Iraq. In May 2010, the Fort Sheridan-based battalion returned from an Iraq deployment after mobilizing through Fort Dix the previous year. 16th POB Soldiers were also documented operating in Uganda in 2009, reflecting the broad range of missions handled by an Army Reserve PSYOP formation.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe battalion remains part of the Army Reserve PSYOP community under 2nd POG, with Soldiers and companies spread across the Midwest and eastern United States. Units associated with the battalion have included the 303rd and 393rd Psychological Operations Companies, carrying the mission from battalion-level planning down to small teams working directly with local populations and supported commanders.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIts motto, \u003cstrong\u003eStrength in Truth\u003c\/strong\u003e, comes from an insignia rooted in the older tools of the trade.
