      The 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, known as the “Falcons,” traces its lineage to the 82nd Division of World War I and later became one of the 82nd Airborne Division’s principal infantry regiments. In World War II, the 325th served as glider infantry, not as a parachute infantry regiment, before later becoming modern airborne infantry.

      The 325th Infantry Regiment was constituted in 1917 and assigned to the 82nd Division. It served in France during World War I, including the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne campaigns.

      World War II – Glider Infantry

      Reactivated in 1942, the 325th was reorganized as the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment and assigned to the newly formed 82nd Airborne Division.

      • Sicily (1943): The regiment deployed to the Mediterranean theater in support of Operation Husky.
      • Salerno (1943): The 325th supported the Allied beachhead and advance inland in Italy.
      • Normandy (1944): The 325th arrived in Normandy by glider and sea on D+1 and fought through the Cotentin Peninsula.
      • Operation Market Garden (1944): The regiment entered Holland by glider and fought around the Nijmegen-Groesbeek area.
      • Battle of the Bulge (1944–45): The 325th fought in the Ardennes with the 82nd Airborne Division.

      Post-War and Modern Service

      The 325th remained an important part of the 82nd Airborne Division after World War II and later transitioned into parachute infantry. No 325th Infantry battalion deployed with the 82nd Airborne Division’s 3rd Brigade to Vietnam in 1968–69; that brigade consisted principally of 1-505, 2-505, and 1-508 Infantry.

      In the modern era, 325th Infantry battalions participated in operations including Grenada, Panama, the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
