The 407th Forward Support Battalion, part of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, was activated on August 5, 1917, at Camp Gordon, Georgia, as the 407th Supply Train (Motor). During World War I, it served on the Western Front in France, participating in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensives. After demobilization in 1919, the unit underwent several reorganizations, becoming the 407th Quartermaster Regiment in 1936. In World War II, it was redesignated as the 407th Airborne Quartermaster Company, supporting operations in Sicily, Italy, Normandy, and the Netherlands, earning two arrowheads for initial assaults.
Post-World War II, the unit evolved into the 407th Supply and Transportation Battalion in 1957, participating in operations such as Power Pack in the Dominican Republic, Urgent Fury in Grenada, Just Cause in Panama, and Desert Shield/Desert Storm in the Middle East. On October 22, 1993, it was restructured as the 407th Forward Support Battalion, providing direct logistical support to the 2nd Brigade Task Force. Notably, in 2017, under LTC Elizabeth H. Curtis, the battalion deployed to Kuwait and Iraq, contributing to the liberation of Mosul. Currently, the 407th Brigade Support Battalion continues its mission at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, supporting the 82nd Airborne Division.
