The 82nd Aviation Regiment, part of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, was established in 1957 as the 82nd Aviation Company and reorganized in 1960 as the 82nd Aviation Battalion, becoming the first combat aviation battalion assigned to a division-sized unit in the U.S. Army. In 1987, it was restructured as the 82nd Aviation Brigade. The regiment has participated in various operations, including Vietnam, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Grenada, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

On January 15, 2006, the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade was formed as part of the U.S. Army's initiative to enhance combat power through the Brigade Combat Team structure. This modern brigade comprises three battalions and one separate company under the Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, along with the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, and the 122nd Aviation Support Battalion. The brigade continues to support global operations, maintaining its readiness and versatility as an integral component of the 82nd Airborne Division.
