The 35th Signal Brigade, known as "The Lion Brigade," was established on January 11, 1943, as the 931st Signal Battalion (Air Support Command) at Esler Field, Louisiana. In June 1944, it was reorganized and redesignated as the 931st Signal Battalion. During World War II, the unit deployed to India and Burma, providing critical communications support to American and British forces. It participated in the India-Burma, Central Burma, and China offensive campaigns, earning a Meritorious Unit Citation for its service in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Following the war, the battalion was deactivated in India in 1945.
The unit was reactivated on April 25, 1967, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and redesignated as the 35th Signal Group, gaining airborne status. It underwent multiple training and emergency deployment readiness exercises between 1967 and 1979. On December 16, 1979, it was reorganized as the 35th Signal Brigade to support XVIII Airborne Corps-level assets. The brigade relocated to Fort Gordon, Georgia, on April 23, 2007, and returned to Fort Bragg on October 14, 2022, when it was redesignated from a Theater Tactical Signal Brigade to a Corps Signal Brigade. Currently, the 35th Signal Brigade provides rapidly deployable force projection signal support and rapid communications for Army, joint, and combined operations.
