The 325th Infantry Regiment was first constituted in 1917 and assigned to the 82nd Division during World War I. It deployed to France, fighting in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives, earning its first battle streamers and establishing its lineage within the All American Division.

World War II – Becoming Airborne

Reactivated in 1942, the 325th was converted to a glider infantry regiment as part of the newly formed 82nd Airborne Division. Its Soldiers were among the first to fight in Europe:

      • Sicily (1943): Glider landings supported Operation Husky, providing reinforcement to paratroopers.

      • Salerno (1943): Supported the beachhead and advance inland during the Italian Campaign.

      • Normandy (1944): Landed by glider and sea on D+1, the 325th fought through hedgerow country in support of the 82nd’s airborne mission.

      • Holland (Operation Market Garden, 1944): Played a vital role in securing bridges and defending “Hell’s Highway” against German counterattacks.

      • Battle of the Bulge (1944–45): Rushed to the Ardennes, the 325th fought in freezing conditions to stop the German offensive.

These campaigns earned the regiment foreign honors including the French Croix de Guerre, Belgian Fourragère, and the Netherlands Military Order of William.

      Post-War & Vietnam

The 325th remained active in the 82nd Airborne Division after WWII. During the Vietnam War, elements of the regiment deployed as part of the 82nd’s 3rd Brigade, conducting combat operations in 1968–69.

      Modern Deployments

The 325th has deployed repeatedly in the modern era:

      • Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada, 1983): Paratroopers of the regiment took part in combat operations during the U.S. intervention in Grenada.

      • Operation Just Cause (Panama, 1989): Supported the airborne assault that toppled Manuel Noriega.

      • Desert Storm (1991): Deployed to Southwest Asia during the Gulf War.

      • Global War on Terror: Multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, conducting combat patrols, air assault operations, and stability missions in support of the Global War on Terror.

      Structure & Battalion Nicknames

The regiment is made up of four battalions, each with its own Falcon identity:

      • 1st Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment – “Red Falcons”

      • 2nd Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment – “White Falcons”

      • 3rd Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment – “Blue Falcons”

      • 4th Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment – “Gold Falcons”

This color designation system is unique and gives each battalion a proud identity within the larger Falcon Regiment.

      Identity & Legacy

      • Nickname: “Falcons”

      • Motto: “Let’s Go!”
