Operation NORTHERN DELAY was a massive joint forcible entry mission launched on March 26, 2003 during the opening days of the Iraq War. Spearheaded by the 173rd Airborne Brigade, the operation began with a combat parachute assault into Bashur Airfield in northern Iraq. Dropping nearly 1,000 "Sky Soldiers" through poor weather and contested airspace, it was the largest American combat jump since Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989.

The primary objective was to seize and secure the airfield, allowing heavy combat power to be rapidly flown into the country. Once the 173rd established a defensive perimeter, U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemasters began a continuous stream of air-land operations, dropping off the rest of the brigade's support elements and heavy equipment. Notably, the arrival of the 1st Battalion, 63rd Armored Regiment marked the first time that an M1 Abrams tank task force was directly integrated into an airborne assault.

Strategically, the operation was a major success that opened a vital northern front against Saddam Hussein's regime. By securing the airfield and subsequently pushing out to work alongside Kurdish Peshmerga forces, the 173rd Airborne Brigade effectively tied down several Iraqi divisions in the region. This critical diversion prevented those Iraqi forces from moving south to defend Baghdad against the main coalition advance, ultimately hastening the fall of the regime.

Production time is 5 business days BEFORE shipping. Business days are M-F 8am-4pm. Federal holidays when the USPS and or UPS is closed are not considered business days.

  • In stock, ready to ship
  • Backordered, shipping soon

  • Everything we sell is produced in house, on demand to ensure quality and production flexibility. Production time for most orders is 2-3 business days. We post current production time at the top of each page on our website.
  • Production and shipping times are sometimes longer during the holidays and other traditionally busy times (I.e., leading up to All-American Week). But the majority of our orders arrive within 7 business days.
  • SHIPPING TIMES ARE IN ADDITION TO PRODUCTION TIME. Selecting faster shipping will move your order through the delivery process faster, but it does not expedite the production process. While we offer several shipping options (standard USPS, Priority Mail, UPS Ground, etc.) once orders enter the mail stream via USPS/UPS, their transit time is out of our control. We will absolutely work with you to help track down a lost or long-delayed package and may, at our discretion, replace or refund a lost order.
  • If it's been more than 5 business days since you received your tracking information and have not yet received your package, feel free to contact us using the link in the order confirmation email. Please review the tracking information prior to contacting us as that is the same information we'll be reviewing- we don't have access to any deeper information than our customers do when it comes to tracking packages.
