How to find your best fit

Measure a well-fitting shirt you already own and compare it with the measurements below.

  • Chest width: Lay the shirt flat and measure one inch below the armhole, from side seam to side seam.
  • Back length: Measure from the center back neckline to the bottom hem.
  • Shoulder width: Measure straight across the back from shoulder seam to shoulder seam.
  • Sleeve length: Measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve unless the chart notes otherwise.

Measurements are in inches. Allow for a manufacturing tolerance of approximately 0.5 to 1 inch.

Unit History & Information

The Joint Medical Augmentation Unit (JMAU) brings specialized medical support to Joint Special Operations Command. During the Global War on Terror, its Surgical Resuscitation Teams helped bridge the distance between a wounded operator and a deployed hospital. Small, mobile teams could reinforce a medical facility, move critically injured patients between facilities, or bring emergency surgical capability forward when evacuation alone could not meet a casualty’s needs.

JMAU personnel were involved in the opening weeks of Operation Enduring Freedom. On the night of October 19–20, 2001, Rangers from 3rd Ranger Battalion seized Objective Rhino, an airfield southwest of Kandahar. USAF Special Tactics Combat Controllers assessed the landing strip and coordinated aircraft operations. After the strip was secured, an MC-130 delivered JMAU medical personnel, who treated two Rangers injured during the parachute jump. Their arrival put medical support on the objective alongside the assault force.

The unit’s wartime experience also helped document the possibilities and limits of surgery during evacuation. A 2020 study in the Journal of Special Operations Medicine reviewed 15 years of JMAU Surgical Resuscitation Team after-action reports covering 317 casualties, including five military working dogs. Teams provided facility augmentation, critical care transport, and direct support near the point of injury; nine patients underwent emergency surgery in flight. That record captures a demanding part of special operations medicine: carrying resuscitation and, when necessary, surgical intervention to casualties before they reach a hospital.
