Unit History & Information

Special Operations Joint Task Force–Operation Inherent Resolve was established in January 2016 as the special operations component of the coalition campaign against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. It coordinated work with partner forces through training, advice, assistance, and support in the field.

The 2018–2019 period marked a transition from major territorial advances to clearing remaining ISIS positions and consolidating gains. The Syrian Democratic Forces took the last ISIS territorial stronghold at Baghouz in March 2019. The dates and SOJTF-OIR identity on this Alpha Company design place it within that phase of the campaign.
