Lay the shirt flat on a level surface without stretching. Smooth out folds, then measure straight across from side seam to side seam, one inch below the armhole seams.

Measure body length from the high point of the shoulder beside the neck to the bottom hem.

Chest width is half the garment circumference. Doubling it gives the measurement around the garment, not a recommended body chest size.

Chest-width manufacturing tolerance: ±0.5 inch.

Unit History & Information

Army airborne training at Fort Benning began with the Parachute Test Platoon of 1940. Its two officers and 48 enlisted Soldiers helped establish the methods that became the foundation of the Army’s airborne force. The school’s organization changed over the decades, and in October 1985 its training mission passed to the 1st Battalion, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment. The Black Hat instructors carry that training tradition through the Basic Airborne Course, preparing new Paratroopers to join airborne units.
